Bon Appetit, August 2002"There's a lot to like about downtown Waterford, with its handful of white clapboard houses, all of which are in the National Register of Historic Places, and the mountains that seem to hang, suspended, above. The Lake House was built in the 1790s and operates as a hotel as well as a restaurant. It has retained its vintage appeal, with tastefully appointed guest rooms and gleaming wood floors. But the real action is in the dining room. The Lake House is overseen by chef-proprietor Michael Myers, whose masterworks include a starter of chilled salmon encrusted with hazelnuts and herbs; Maine shrimp, sautéed in butter and garlic, on a bed of capellini; salmon in pistachio sauce; chicken breasts stuffed with feta; and lamb loin rubbed with fennel seeds, rosemary, and pine nuts. Perhaps the best part of the meal was when my eight-year-old daughter, Rosie, said that the roasted duck with blueberry-blackberry sauce was even better than chicken fingers. Now, that is real talent."
